Theme Event or Party Decor

By: Ruthie Tanner

Every party or event usually has a theme and chosen colors according to the occasion.

It makes decor so much easier and gives a coordinated overall look and feel to the event.

Recently I was honored to do the decor for a conference which the theme was a military look.

To start the decor, I used a black table linen (you could use fabric) to cover this piece of furniture and give a base color.

Items for added decor I used:

  • camouflage netting- Amazon

  • variety of helmets- Amazon

  • canteens- Amazon

  • wooden crates - Joann’s

  • faux foliage - Hobby Lobby

  • River rocks- Dollar Tree

  • Brown packing paper - FREE

The wooden crates were in the raw state and given a quick coat of brown chalk paint, any craft paint or stain works too.

The piece of camouflage netting was arranged to hang down the front and the crate was placed on its side.

With faux foliage I created two arrangements - looking like weeds you could hide behind from the enemy, these were placed on top of the crate to give height.

The canteens were filled with water to give it weight and prevent them from tipping over.

Brown shipping paper (free from packages received) was placed around the area to give interest and another texture of decor.

Velcro is wonderful to use to stabilize items to ensure they will remain where you want them.

Velcro was used on the bottom of the round canteen on the wooden crate.

There was a secondary area that also needed to be decorated, so I used more of the same decorations. However a lamp was a big distraction to the overall look, so I covered it with the camouflage netting… and it changed the entire look and now I love it!

Food was served on galvanized trays and wooden tree slices to complete the table.

This was such a fun event to decorate for and would also be wonderful decor for a birthday party.

Thanks for visiting Graceful Home!
