10 Things I Used in my Devotion Time Today

By: Ashley Davis

I like to mix up where I pray sometimes, but I usually end up in our extra bathroom (see that post here!), in my bedroom on the floor beside my bed, or in my recliner in our school room. (As typical homeschoolers though, we don’t actually do school in the room designated for it – haha!) So here are the things I used during my devotion time today!

 #1 – My Creature Comforts

Today, I did my prayer time in my favorite chair. You’ll rarely find me without my blanket in the morning. My great grandmother made this scrappy quilt, and I managed to get away with it when I moved away from home as a 17-year-old girl. I also always have black coffee in the morning. My husband is our in-home barista, and he sets the coffee each night to brew early in the morning so it’s ready for us. The warm lighting in this room also makes all the difference for me.

#2 – Piano in the Background Playlist:

The last thing that sets the ambience for my prayer time is some type of instrumental piano. I have been listening to this playlist on Spotify lately.

#3 – Mom Heart Moments Devotional by Sally Clarkson

I’ve been using this devotional for the last few months. It is very encouraging and challenging while still being bite-size for daily use.

#4 – Illuminated Bible

This is the Bible I’ve been using for about the last year. I love the wide margins, the gold foil, the rich eggplant color, and the feel of it. The translation is ESV.

#5 – Eric Condren Graph Paper Notebook

I like to use the paper from this EC notebook. It’s graph style and very sturdy. When I fold the sheet in half, it fits perfectly inside my Illuminated Bible. I usually use this for notetaking in church and for scripture mapping. I do write in my actual Bible, but when a page gets too full or there’s art in the margin, this paper is my go-to. This paper is pictured in my Illuminated Bible. above

#6 – Washi Tape

After scripture mapping or notetaking, I use washi tape to stick my notes into the page where the main scripture text came from. This tape is pictured in my Illuminated Bible above.

#7 – Abide Bible

If you’ve been around FT2, you’ll know we’re a fan of the Abide Bible. I used this Bible today to check out another translation of the chapter I was reading (Matthew 11), and I used the “Praying Scripture” prompt to help facilitate my study and prayer time.

#8 – Touch Bible App

I like to use Touch Bible to look deeper into the meaning of words during verse mapping.

#9 – PaperBlank Aurelia Journal

I like to use this BIG, beautiful journal for a variety of things. Right now, I am using it as a prayer journal. Coincidentally, it matches my Illuminated Bible almost perfectly!

#10 – Writing Implements

-       Papermate Fine Point Gel Pens: These are my favorite pens, especially for writing in my Bible.

-       UBrand Ballpoint: Unfortunately, my favorite Papermates don’t write well in my PaperBlank journal. The paper in the journal is fine and the ink of a gel pen cannot adhere to the paper. This (matching!!) Ubrand pen has been my choice for this notebook lately.

-       Mildliner Highlighters: Mildliners. If you don’t have them, add them to your wishlist. They DO NOT disappoint.

I hope you’ve enjoyed a look into some of my favorite products right now! Happy studying!
