The WHY? Behind Following Titus 2
WOW. It seems like I woke up one day and was 59 years old…. almost 60. I’ve gotta tell ya girls, 60 is old (in my mind) and yet, I don’t feel old. I’m struggling with this number on an age thing. (Lol). And I’ve truly realized how quickly time flies. We’ve been in San Antonio 20 (TWENTY!) YEARS!
Throughout the years at Calvary Church, my journey has been nothing short of incredible. From our first service, where just 11 souls gathered in a humble space with only 8 pews, the potential was palpable. It truly felt like a divine calling.
I've had the privilege of putting my hands on nearly every aspect of church life, diligently working to implement and nurture various departments. It’s been a labor of love, and I can see how God has orchestrated each step along the way.
Now, as our congregation has flourished, my role has shifted to a more hands-off approach on the platform. These days, I usually find myself leading worship from the pew, trying to manage my four little ones. Let me tell you, it can be quite a lively scene! But amidst the chaos, I'm grateful for this new chapter and season.
I realized, I had a choice…
I can lay aside the ministry I love so much or refocus, but how?
My Time…My Place… My Season has changed.
That’s not bad, it’s life, how will I embrace it?
Through prayer Following Titus 2 was born in my heart. I love Ladies Ministry, YOU are my people, I “get” you, and in one season or another in my life, I’ve probably even walked in your shoes. And if I haven’t, I have a sisterhood of friends that has and they will be sharing this space with me from time to time.
I am so proud of the younger generation. (THAT’S YOU!). 😀
You have a desire and resources to be better than us. Do greater things than us!
But it won’t happen by accident, you will have to stretch yourself to grow and learn, which takes self-discipline. One of the greatest nuggets of wisdom my father, Richard Johnson, left me was “Gena, always surround yourself with people greater than you, learn from them, and put it into practice in your life.” That’s what I want to encourage you to do - hey! You’re doing it! Not only here at FT2, but in other areas of your life. I commend you!
So thank you for joining me on my journey of Following Titus 2.
Gena.
“Always surround yourself with people greater than you, learn from them, a put it into practice in your life.”
