Christmas Advent Ideas For Kids

By Guest Contributor: Ashley Moss

This is the time of the year when we can easily get caught up in the commercial focus on Christmas, and less on why we truly celebrate the season.

And while we all have the desire to share the story and purpose of the birth of Jesus with our children, without setting aside intentional time, we can easily forget.

Blocking out a daily time in the month of December with our families will help us put the focus back on Jesus.

This time together can be as easy as sitting down and doing a devotion, or as involved as making a daily craft. Whatever method you choose to use, make sure it is something you can sustain through the month.

Listed below are some ideas you can use in your family time. Feel free to mix and match some of these ideas to make this year successful as you and your family put the emphasis on Him!

Etsy has a variety of festive printables that are very affordable. This option is a daily card that has a Christmas scripture, discussion, and prayer prompts that you do together as a family. These could easily be modified to make them more age-appropriate for older, such as having your kids find the scriptures in their Bibles or even scripture memory.

If you are a crafty family and want something a little more involved, then you would enjoy The Jesus Storybook Bible Advent Activity Book. This book has 24 days of scripture readings, a short focus point, and a hands-on activity to help make that day's focus come alive for your children.

This final Christmas idea is a list of daily activities that help remind us to be kind and share the love of Jesus during this season. Each day is a different random act of kindness that you can do together as a family.

This low prep list is a great way to help your children focus on living like Jesus.

Whether you choose a simple activity or a very involved activity, choose something that will help you and your kids remember the reason for the season!
