Last Light & The Restoration Series

By Terri Blackstock

Imagine you wake up on a weekday morning and realize you’ve overslept. You bolt out of bed. It’s eerily quiet. No alarm woke you up, no text from your friend, no call from your boss. You reach for your phone and see that it’s dead. The screen is black, and you assume you forgot to put it on the charger. You run to hop in the shower, flick on the bathroom light and nothing happens. Nothing… You try the lights again. Nothing. You check the breaker box in your garage, but nothing fixes the no-electricity-in-the-house problem. You dress in the semi-dark and make the most of your hair without hot tools. You rush to the car without breakfast or coffee – you’re already late. No time for that. You press the break and hold the push button start on your car. Nothing. AGAIN.

This is the world the Branning family encounters in Last Light. Deni and her father, Doug, are at the airport and have just come off a flight when planes suddenly start dropping from the sky. They quickly learn that every source of power has been extinguished. Nothing works. From vehicles to phones to internet (no! not the internet!!), nothing has power. What is ensues is mayhem, chaos, and hard times, but how will the Brannings, a Christian family, respond? The Restoration series details this family’s journey through the unknown and difficulty of this worldwide phenomenon.

If you’re one of the thousands (and thousands) of people who put “read more books” on your goals list for this year, give this one a shot! The premise inherently brings up a lot of valuable faith discussions, and if you stick with the series to the end, you’ll see some incredible growth in the characters!

One of my personal favorite things about Terri Blackstock’s books is that she writes with incredible intention, with her characters and toward her readers. Her books are meant to be thought-provoking and cause readers to consider their own faith and how they would respond in situations her characters experience.

If you’re looking for a good series to kick off the year, give this one a try. I listened to the whole thing on the Libby app. This is a free app that allows you to check out ebooks and audio books from your library system. It’s worth looking into!

Happy Reading & Happy New Year!
